Appellation Trail Pt. 1: People Who Live in Glass Houses

Several local wineries have joined together to form the Appellation Trail, a route that connects them and a combined marketing effort.  I really like this idea for some of the same reasons I really appreciated other local wineries collaborating to produce 3: it's really nice to see competitors acting more like colleagues and supporting each others' businesses for the good of everyone. Some of these wineries are already on our list of favorites, and some of them we haven't yet had the pleasure of trying.  Last weekend we took advantage of a beautiful Sunday to go to Glass House Winery, one of our new favorites, and then we took a road we'd never traveled to Mountfair Vineyards, one of our established favorites.  First, Glass House:

Glass House has enjoyable wines, delicious chocolates, and a great, unique setting. Not only is there a bright, open tasting room, and great patio and deck area with tables and chairs overlooking the pond, there's also a conservatory chock-full of tropical plants, with plenty of tables and chairs for you to enjoy some wine with a picnic if the conditions outside aren't optimal. I'd love to see this place at night - it'd be a lovely spot for an event.

I was corralling a few little ones, so I'll have to save shots of the tasting room and grounds for another post.  I did get a few shots of the flora in the conservatory.

pineapple!

It's like that saying goes: people who live in glass houses just might put chocolate in their wine. And it's fantastic when they do. Next up: Taking a New Route.
